The World Series, the most important baseball competition is now finally over and fans can get some sleep as the Astros won game 7 5-1 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Nov. 1. Many people at West watched the World Series and some Astros fans are gloating. The game went down to the wire.

The 2017 World Series featured the Los Angeles Dodgers (104-58) and the Houston Astros (101-61). It started October 24 and ended November 1.

The World Series is held every year in October. Eight teams out of thirty make the playoffs. The tournament usually takes the whole month of October and some of November to complete.

Nicu Curtu ‘19 has been an Astros fan for over two years now and said he’s so relieved that the Astros won it all. Curtu had his doubts after game 6 when Dodgers won it 3-1 forcing a game 7. “One day in July, a couple years ago, I was flipping through the channels and stopped on baseball.” Curtu said. He was immediately entertained by the Houston Astros star second baseman, Jose Altuve. “[Altuve is my favorite] because he’s the star player and he reminds me of Lionel Messi of F.C. Barcelona.” Jose Altuve reminds Curtu of Lionel Messi, one of the best soccer players in the world, who is also short. Jose Altuve is 5’6” and Lionel Messi is 5’7’’.

Jamaal Njoroge ‘18 has been a Dodgers fan for two years now. Njoroge became a Dodgers fan two years ago after watching a Dodgers game in Milwaukee with his family. It was after his freshman year in late June when he attended that game. “To be honest, the only reason I became a Dodgers fan was because they hit a lot of home runs. It suck that they lost but there is always next year.” Njoroge said.

Anna Forbes ‘19 is a big fan of baseball and doesn’t really have a favorite team. “I love to just watch baseball,” Forbes said. She has attended many games around the state of Iowa. She’s attended a Cubs, Cardinals, Royals, and Twins game in her lifetime. None of which she had a favorite. “I like to just watch and observe the different things players and coaches do before, during, and after the game.” Forbes said. During game 5 of the World Series, a fan ran onto the field and the players tried to stay away until security and the police got them.

This game is a part of american culture as proven by the fact that over 28 million Americans tuned in on a Wednesday night to watch game 7. The World Series was the climax of a six month season that finished with a spectacular game 7. Houston Astros came out on top and won it all.
