WaterStreet Cafe and Bar Review

Waterstreet Cafe an Iowa City local coffee shop that is over looked turns out to be splendiferous. From amazing interior design to refined food the shop was exquisite.

Right when you enter Waterstreet Cafe you catch a glimpse at the vintage ladder pressed up against the wall displaying newspapers, already I knew this place was a winner for the interior design. With a rustic, yet clean and simple interior with handpainted flowers on the walls. The menu hanging on the wall was handwritten on paper but made to look like it is presented on a scroll. Music is played by a record player with nearly a hundred records to choose from, if requested. The aesthetic of the place draws you in, and you are already loving the place without even tasting their coffee.

Walking into the cafe and placing my personal belongings onto a table it was obvious to the two workers that I was a stranger here. Obvious enough they betted that it was my first time there. This just proves how well the workers know their customers. They were friendly and clearly very proud of their cafe as they described their menu to me. There are very few drinks offered compared to Java House or Starbucks but every single one promises to be astounding.

I ordered their most popular drink, the Colombian coffee. When the server brought out my drink along came a little cow that contained milk for the drink. Bonus points because the cream came out of the cow’s mouth. The Colombian is quintessential for pure coffee lovers such as myself. It tastes smooth with richness, a tad bit bitter like regular coffee but yet sweet drawing you in for another sip. The perfect combination leaving myself satisfied.

The caramel latte was brought out again by the server and right away you notice the delicate leaf design on the latte. It is satisfying to the taste because it was sweet, creamy, and giving the caffeine of a regular coffee although it doesn’t quite taste like coffee. Perfect for the on to go students that need the extra boost who dislike pure coffee.

Next on the menu was the cheese platter which contained crackers to complement the cheddar cheese, pear slices, and almonds with honey. The cheese was so soft, creamy, and tasteful against the seeded crackers that was provided. On the plate sat a small squared bowl of almonds which were warmed and fresh from the oven. The roasted smell of almonds is in the air minutes after ordering the platter. Overall the platter was the perfect serving size to solve your hunger but not leave you feeling overly full.

Although the aesthetic of the cafe is engaging the seating is limited. There are only six tables and a table against the window to look out at those passing by. The cafe deserves to be expanded due to its excellent service and tasteful food worthy of my twenty dollar tip. I highly recommend for one to try Waterstreet Cafe for a quiet space to study or to chitchat with friends.
