Blend in the Good- Jamba Juice Review

Ayanna Rost

A trip to Jamba Juice sometimes makes it into my morning routine since opening on Riverside Dr. in Iowa City last fall. When you walk in, the welcoming smell of freshly baked bagels, from the attached Bruegger’s Bagels, encourages you to grab a menu and peruse the multitude of options. For me, it can turn a bad morning into a good one; it’s almost as if it gives me a fresh new start to the day.

Pros

First of all, it’s comforting for me to know how my food is made. After an order is placed they make it right away. The bagels are in a case where people can see, and all the fresh fruit for smoothies is also visible. This gives me the confidence to think that what I’m eating is healthy, and doesn’t have processed ingredients, for example. Second, the interior is set up in such a way that would be pretty convenient to go study for a while, or just to go with some friends to hang out and chat.

Cons

The cost. Yes, it may be around $4 for a small smoothie, or up to about $7 for a large, but where else can you find a wide array of high-quality smoothie options like Jamba offers?

Comparison to Others

One of the benefits of choosing Jamba is that they don’t add a bunch of additives and they’re freshly made, unlike many other fast food chains. On the McDonald’s website, for example, the ingredients for their strawberry banana smoothie are as stated: “Ingredients: Strawberry Puree, Banana Puree, Water, Grape Juice Concentrate, Clarified Demineralized Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Sugar.” This goes to show how fruits from concentrate and other additives are often used in fast food, but Jamba Juice is different.

Overall

If you’re looking for a cool new place to try and have a couple extra dollars to spend, I’d definitely consider Jamba Juice. My usual order is the egg and cheese on a bagel with a small smoothie. I usually switch between a few of my favorite smoothie varieties; some of which are Razzmatazz, Aloha Pineapple and Strawberries Wild.
