Do You Love e.l.f Cosmetics?

Taylor Streck

E.l.f. Cosmetics provides the cheapest yet great quality makeup, perfect for teenagers. Many teenagers haven’t found their perfect affordable makeup brand so elf is perfect. E.l.f. Cosmetics pop up at many retail stores making it very easy to come across. You might find them at the checkout counter of Old Navy like me and be tempted to buy something every time thinking it’s ok due to the very low price. In my mind it’s ok to buy a candy bar that costs the same amount, so why not? You can also find the sheek black packaged products at Walmart, Forever 21, CVS, Walgreens, Ulta and my personal favorite Target (or as the kids say Targé). Over the past few years e.l.f. has evolved from a cheap kid play makeup company to a company that houses highly effective and practical makeup.

Eyes
Eye products are a mandatory part of everyday makeup looks for a lot of people, whether it’s just throwing on some mascara or a full on smokey look. Elf holds an abundance of different eye shadow kids and forms and prices. You can purchase many different matte eye kits for $10 as well as their prism palette for the same price. These two types of palettes by them are not only preferred over any other drugstore palette by me but also the most for your money. I would recommend you stay clear of their baked eye shadow palettes as they are very dry and non-pigmented however they do sell an individual baked shadow for $3.00 that are not as bad. To add that special something to your everyday look a little liner can be fun and practical. Elf has a great felt tip eyeliner for $3.00 that dries matte and stays put but their expert liquid liner is something to stay away from as it is hard to apply with a streaky liquid formula and a harsh brush. Lastly e.l.f. Cosmetics mineral infused mascara for $3.00 is great and worth your money while their 3in1 mascara has a non existent formula with a failure of an applicator brush.
Lips
Because I am a teen, a cute lip color is necessary everyday. Something that applies easily and quickly while having a satin feel and look that will last throughout the day is essential for some people while others prefer a moisturizing shiny lip. A top lip product by e.l.f. Is their matte lip color in coral at $3.00. It is the perfect formula for even application while being thinner than a lipstick which allows me to apply it in the lines of my non-existent lips. It doesn’t dry the lips but it settles in the creases of lips a bit so use a lip exfoliant. They also have many glosses, the best being their tinted lip oil which sounds odd I will admit but can compare to the NYX butter gloss. It is about the same price at $6.00 and comes with almost twice the amount of product. With any gloss at a local drugstore stay away from glitter glosses and this also applies to e.l.f. They also house some moisturizing lipstick listed at $3.00 that have a great formula but are not raved about by elf supporters.

Face
Elf has multiple different types of foundations that are worth the money. With their skin care line they have a acne fighting foundation for $6.00 and for a healthy looking face they have a flawless finish foundation with spf 15 for $6.00 as well. I have found that the flawless one is the most impressive and still does not cause breakouts but can get oily. We all know that primers however are the most important aspect of everyday makeup whether for just powder or foundation. Elf has many primers for $6.00 that are silicone based. For dry skin these are perfect however for oily skin like my own it does not work so watch out. For setting both of these based they have a high definition powder for $6.00 which is amazing and doesn’t leave a white cast. For adding a little color and dimension to the face they have a blush, bronze, and highlight palette each being $8.00 that are amazing quality however if you want something more simple they have a bronze and blush compact for $4.00 which in many ways is more practical.
