Do it yourself Disney

Epcot, and Hollywood Studios. In light of this trip we thought it would be fun to make some Disney themed foods ourselves. We found that some “Do-It-Yourself” recipes are indeed difficult to replicate. Here are some delicious yet slightly difficult recipes to make yourself feel as if you were in Disney while you are at home. See if you too can “Do-It-Yourself”.

Recipe for Mickey Mouse style caramel apples
Delicious treat that can be found around Disney parks.

Materials
-Large pot to melt caramel
-Popsicle stick or wooden stick
-Baking pan
-Parchment paper
-Pan to melt chocolate

Ingredients
-Caramel (About 1 bag or amount found online or on package)
-Semi sweet chocolate chips
-Regular marshmallows
-Apples of your choice

Directions

    1. Melt down the caramel until smooth per instructions on package or instructions found online. Instructions for melting caramel from a bag can also be found in our video.
    2. Rinse apples and insert wooden sticks or popsicle stick at the bottom of the apple
    3. Dip apple into caramel making sure to coat all sides of the apple
    4. Once coated set on a baking tray lined with parchment paper (or something to keep the caramel from sticking such as butter) with the stick facing upward

  1. Place two regular sized marshmallows on each side of the apple to look like ears
  2. Let cool until caramel is hard to the touch
  3. While caramel is cooling melt down chocolate chips until smooth consistency (May use stove or microwave for this, we used the microwave which is a lot faster)
  4. When apples are cooled carefully dip them into chocolate making sure to coat all sides.
  5. Coat half of the apple in red sprinkles and add two yellow jelly beans to each sides. (Decorative and optional step to make it look more like Mickey)

Recipe for The Grey Stuff

The grey stuff is from the movie Beauty and the Beast. It is served in Walt Disney World’s Be our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom.

Materials
-Large mixing bowl
-Wisk
-Spatula or spoon
-Piping bag (optional)
-Piping tip (optional)
-Serving plate

Ingredients
-1 ½ cups of whole milk
-1 package (3.4 oz) Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
-1 container Whipped Topping (Cool Whip)
-3 tbsp Instant Chocolate Pudding
-15 Oreo Cookies (regular)
-edible pearl sprinkles (grey, black, white)

Directions

  1. In a large bowl gently whisk vanilla pudding and milk until pudding mix is dissolved.
  2. Place the mixture in refrigerator to chill for 5-15 minutes.
  3. Blend Oreo cookies in the food processor or crush the cookies until they are a fine powder, make sure there are no large pieces of the cookie left.
  4. Remove pudding and milk mixture from refrigerator mix in crushed Oreos.
  5. Carefully fold whipped topping into the mixture.

  1. Add chocolate pudding to the rest of the mixture, and stir it so it is evenly mixed together.
  2. Place the mixture back into the refrigerator for an hour to an hour and a half.
  3. The mixture is done you can serve as is, or put it into a piping bag with a unique tip to get the same look as Be Our Guest.
  4. Place the edible pearl sprinkles on top and enjoy.

Recipe for Mickey Mouse Rice Krispies

A common and easy to love treat that can be found in various stores around Disney parks.

Materials

-Large sauce pan
-Spatula
–Baking pan 13x9x2in.
-Mickey Mouse cookie cutter or a knife
-Popsicle stick
-Medium sized bowl
-Baking tray

Ingredients

-¼ stick of butter
-1 box of Rice Krispies
-Cooking spray

Directions

    1. On medium heat melt the butter in the saucepan
    2. Once fully melted add the marshmallows
    3. Stir constantly until marshmallows are melted
    4. Marshmallows should be smooth and slightly thick
    5. Add Rice Krispies to the pan
    6. Fold in the Rice Krispies making sure they are all fully coated

  1. Evenly coat the sides of the pan with cooking spray
  2. Pour the Rice Krispies into the baking pan
  3. Spray the spatula with cooking spray
  4. Flatten the Rice Krispies with the spatula
  5. Let cool for about 30 min or cool to the touch
  6. Take cookie cutter and cut the shape out of the Rice Krispies
  7. Place on the baking tray
  8. Insert the popsicle stick at the bottom of the Mickey Mouse
