Running as fast as he can

Tosh Klever ’21 uses running as an outlet for stress in his life.

While most people avoid running at all costs, Tosh Klever ‘21 uses it as a way to de-stress. “I love being out in nature,” he said., “And I love exercising, it’s just really relaxing and stress relieving.” Klever also loves running with his family and is part of the cross country team.

Klever went out running with his family often when they lived in Colorado. Before Iowa, they lived in Colorado and would go hiking at Bergen Mountain, up a five-mile trail. “We used to go as a family and have a fun time.” he says, “I’d usually end up crying, though, because I was so exhausted.”

This past summer Klever ran over 150 miles. He is very proud of this accomplishment and says his friends and team really pushed him to get better and stronger. “Friends push me a lot, and our team.” he says, “It’s fun hanging out with them and running.”

Klever uses running as a way to stay calm and relax. “I get really anxious and sometimes cranky when I don’t exercise,” Klever says.

When asked where he would most like to go in the world Klever said he would want to go hiking in the Appalachian Mountains and paraglide in that area. “What really draws my attention is just like being in mountains, being new places. I’d love to travel the world, go someplace foreign,” he says.

Klever also has many interesting stories about Iowa wildlife, as he lived near an area where lots of animals would come gather. “We lived on a golf course in Evergreen for a year, and there’d be a herd of elk that would come by every day. One of them even came down and ripped down our hummingbird feeder and drank all the juices,” Klever said.

Klever is part of the West High Cross Country team, and really enjoys running with his teammates. When asked his favorite place to run with his teammates he responded, “It’s really fun running at the Ashton Cross Country Course…..It’s where we have our home meets.”

He says his coaches also push him hard to exercise every day. “They’re the ones that really get me out there, off my butt,” Klever says.
