Being an artist, I’ve always expressed my words and emotions through painting or drawing. Photography is a part of this as well, communicating only through pictures and images. Many of my friends, like Sophia Chen and Pattarin Oonmettaree, are amazing photographers and would take photos at events we’d all go to together. Sophia has encouraged me to try my hand at photography and has always been there, prepared to answer questions I might have about taking pictures. Even during this Photography Unit, Sophia has willingly lent my her Canon camera and taught me new methods of how to edit photos with PhotoShop. Although this unit was frustrating at times, I learned a lot and I am definitely more confident in my photography skills – thanks to the tips from class and the guidance of my peers.

To showcase the talent and artwork of the artists from Maroger Fine Arts Studio, I brought my camera to one of my Friday evening art classes. I took pictures of oil painters, students using watercolors, and artists using charcoal. By displaying a variety of artwork and numerous ways to create pieces, I hoped to show that there are many different mediums used in art and how much the word “art” encompasses.

For my event, I attended a robotics meeting of one of the two robotics teams at West High, Children of the Corn, who compete in the First Robotics Competition, or FRC. I was able to photograph not only the builders that were prototyping the robot, but also the programmers – the “behind the scene” members.
